Anime is a huge part of my life because it's just plain addicting. I'm not even joking, it makes you an addict. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. My friend suggested it to me quite a while back. I initially thought it was dumb and was for weirdos, but boy was I wrong. Now I watch anime all the time. Japanese cartoons are the best.

In the article "Monkey see, Monkey do, Monkey Connect", The author speaks to us about how bonds between humans and animals are quite incredible. For example, the chimpanzee mimics human activity to increase their knowledge on survival. "Another example comes from a chimpanzee filmed while using a heavy rock as a hammer to crack nuts. The actor is being observed by a younger ape, who swings his own (empty) hand down in sync every time the first one strikes the nut." (Frans B.M. de Waal, 144-147)

In the poem "At Dusk" the author talks to us about how a common house cat has a difficult choice to make. The choice of whether to abandon its owner, and go explore the world, or stay with its owner and get the necessities it needs but stay in the same boring environment forever. " It's as if she can't decide whether to leap over the low hedge, the neat row of flowers, and bound onto the porch, into the steady circle of light, or stay where she is: luminous possibility-flitting before her." (Natasha Trethewey, 13-18

The Grasshopper and the Bell Cricket

In the short story "The Grasshopper and the Bell Cricket", The author tells us a story about a group of children all looking for insects in a field. Each of the small children has a lantern that they made. One boy, however, bought his lantern at the store, threw it away because it had no specialty to it because he had bought it. Then a boy asks if anyone wants a grasshopper. A girl comes up to the boy and says that she would like it. But the girl finds out that it's a bell cricket and not a grasshopper. Then everyone cheers and gasps at the bell cricket. The reason for this is because bell crickets are sacred to the Japanese so it is quite nice for them to find a bell cricket. "Oh! it's not a grasshopper. It's a bell cricket. The girl's eyes shone as she looked at the small brown insect." (Kawabata, 80-81)
