I think one theme would be is that just because you have parties and do good things for other people that they aren't always friends or best friends.
Examples: When Gatsby through parties for Daisy. He is trying to get her back and she doesnt wanna come back.
When Jay dies nobody is at his funeral except Nick.

Another theme is that money doesn't buy you happiness.
Examples:
When Jay has parties everyone comes but Jay doesnt always have fun.
Jay doesn't always gets what he wants and sometimes he gets mad.
When Daisy hit the lady he tried to cover it up but he couldn't and ended up getting shoot because of it.

A symbol in the Great Gatsby would be when Jay is having parties.
´´There was music from my neighbor's house through the summer nights. In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and he champagne and the stars.´´

Motif is the parites and Jay trying to get Daisy to love him.
´´He hadn't once ceased looking at Daisy, and I think he revalued everything in his house according to the measure of response it drew from her well-loved eyes. Sometimes, too, he stared around at his possessions in a dazed way, as though in her actual and astounding presence none of it was any longer real. Once he nearly toppled down a flight of stairs.´´
