For my first reading assessment, I did pretty well and I would give myself a thumbs up. The first thing I had to do was go back in the text and reread the information about the different types of miscues to make sure I was marking miscues correctly. The only other aspect of the assessment that I struggled with was the scoring. I was a little off when I checked the answer key, but overall, my numbers were pretty close to the answer key answers.

Overall, I would give myself a thumbs-up on my first oral reading assessment. There were a few times I had to go back to listen or look back in the text to make sure I was marking it correctly but I think with practice and more familiarity with the miscues this will start to come more naturally for me. After comparing my answers to the answer key I noticed that all of my responses and the assessors responses were mostly the same except for a couple. This tells me that I am on the right track when conducting the assessment on my own. Scoring the assessment was my overall struggle. The numbers I got versus the assessors were relatively equal but some were off by a few. I think I need more practice with calculating the scores, this will increase my ability to conduct an oral reading assessment successfully.

Overall I would give myself a thumbs up on my first oral reading assessment. However, there were some parts of it I could improve on. I saw I was able to indicate what Katrina said for each of the concept questions, identify her errors in the passage, identify the scoring sheet for Lost and Found and determine that she is at the frustration level of her reading. The parts I should improve on is making sure I circle what her score for the concept questions are before looking at the answer key, indicating more of an accurate number for the amount of seconds it took Katrina to read a word or phrase, and be more direct with how many questions she got correct.

Overall, I would give myself a thumbs up for my first assessment. I marked up the reading very similarly to the answer key, but added a little bit of additional notes. One aspect of this that I struggled with was understanding how to determine the number of meaning change miscues, the rate, the WPM, and the WCPM. I still believe that I need some clarification on those aspects, but seem to be on the right track with the assessment.

For this being my first reading assessment, I would give myself a thumbs up. For the concept questions my rating of 3-2-1-0 was slightly off but ended up with the same answer on the answer sheet. I marked the reading in almost the same way as the assessor but for the number of miscues, I had to go back and check in the book for a little support. Due to this, I need some clarification on the rate aspect which leads you to words per minute. The remainder of the assessment was the same as the score sheet given.

verall I will give myself a thumbs up because I didn't miss many and it was step by step for me to understand. All of my responses were accurate and it was what the girl said. The miscues caught me off guard because the calculations on the accessor was different that the ones I had. Due to this I need to know how and why she missed certain cues and not the others. The remainder of the test was straight forward and to the point I definitely listened first before completing it. That seemed to help.

I had mixed feelings about the first reading assessment. Overall it went well, I got hung up on how to score the assessment until I reread the chapter. Once I reread, it was more clear on how to score the assessment. I would give myself a thumbs in the middle. I was able to answer the short response questions, but when it came to the miscues, I missed a few of them. When listening to Katrina again, I was able to hear the miscues I missed.

Overall, I would give myself a thumbs up after conducting the reading assessment. I felt as though I took the time to understand the assessment before conducting it myself which helped once I listened to the video the first time because I knew what I would be looking for when I listened to it the second time. There were a couple miscues that I was not sure at the moment if I had correctly heard them so I learned that you must really listen carefully to what is being read aloud.

I would give myself a thumbs up. The text was very explicit with explaining the miscues. I still need work with determining WCPM and WPM. I would like to go over a few more examples to gain a better understanding of scoring the miscues.

Alexandria King
I would give myself a thumbs up after conducting this reading assessment. First i just listened to the audio recording to get a good understanding of what the student and teacher was saying. The second time I actually assessed the student myself by filling out the assessment. As I filled out the assessment there were a couple of times I was unsure of what the student was actually saying. Therefore when I looked at my findings after completing the assessment and compared it to the cheat sheet on blackboard my data didn’t completely match the correct data sheet. Although the data didn’t specifically match I still would give myself a thumbs up however, I would love to get more practice with different students.

I would give myself a thumbs up for being able to follow the assessment fluently. I also rarely had to go back and re-listen to the audio-clip. The responses were overall accurate to what the child said. I would give myself a thumbs down on recording the miscues when the child was reading, that was very hard for me to do overall. I need more practice with miscues because they just go so fast!

Thumbs down.
When it came to calculating the words per min score I was really confused. Math is not my strong suit so I hope to really get some understanding in class. However I was able to follow along and take good notes of what the boy said. It will take me some time to become familiar with this type of assessment.
