It was a Friday and on this day, my parents, Andrew Oliveros and Sonia Cruz, welcomed their third son, me.

I was in South Carolina because when I was a little kid I went there often. On the day we were leaving my family from over there surprised us with Bella, my first dog. She was in a box and my siblings and I were extremely excited. She was my first dog and it changed the way we lived because we always had to be cautious of her. We had to be ready to take care of her which had a significant impact on my family and I.

In August 2019, my dad, my mom, and I went to a realtor company and spent hours there discussing the process of buying a house. It was a long process and actually moving was even longer. They told us all the details and important information we needed to know to buy our house. This was a significant event since it changed everything about my family's way of living. I was born in my house and only knew what life was like there, but after moving we had to get used to being in the new house. After spending quarantine in the house it made it easier to call our new house home.

On Friday, March 13, 2020 we were told that we would get a two week break from school, but after the two weeks it was extended and extended, but soon it was summer break and we ended our eighth grade year at home, online. No one knew this would happen and that the whole world would be forced inside and everything would shut down. This changed everything about the normal way of living. We went from going anywhere and doing anything, to staying home, wearing masks, and being scared all the time that we might get COVID. Living through a pandemic was horrible but at the same time wasn't that bad as I grew closer with my family and gave me an opportunity to have some self reflection and grow as a person.

In February 2020, I was told that I was in the running for Best of Berwyn, a competition between some of the best students that Berwyn had to offer. I was overjoyed and extremely proud in myself that I got nominated to compete. Being involved with this was a huge part of my life and out of all my other academic accomplishments, this one is the one I'm most proud of.

After the passing of my first dog, Bella, my family was heart broken and we didn't have a dog after that for many years. But my parents eventually came around to the idea of getting a new dog. And so on August 6, 2018, we welcomed Superman home. My dad was not excited at all because we were still young and it would be my siblings and I responsibility to take care of him. Superman is super important to my life, he's always there and it's easy to talk to someone who can't talk back, but not only that we is amazing and I feel like my family would be incomplete without him. Being heart broken from losing a dog is the worst feeling ever so having that hole in my heart that Bella left was comforting. Superman though is the best in his own ways too.

In August of 2020, I had my first day of high school was different that most people's first day because of COVID. Everyone was in masks and maintaining a six feet distance from everyone and it was only for Freshman. I hoped that it would be normal day where I got to meet my teachers and get a feel for the school and I did do that but it wasn't the same. The whole year was remote and so the first official day of school was online. Having a whole year of school online was different but not in a bad way. It made certain things about school harder but I learned a lot and meet new people despite the many, many obstacles.

Being told I would be in STEM in May of 2019 and getting into STEM was one of the greatest days of my whole life. I was called down to the principals office scared that I was in trouble but I wasn't. They had told me and the other STEM kids that we were going to be going to Morton to take advanced classes. Given the opportunity to take the two classes was amazing, I meet a bunch of new people and made new friends and I wouldn't give up that experience for anything.

Taking my first AP class was hard. It was something new and different and I was super nervous. I knew that we would have to take a test at the end of the year but when it finally came down to it I was so very nervous. Especially taking it at home, that made it even worse. Taking the actually test though wasn't as hard as I imagined, it was hard, don't get me wrong, but I felt like I could do it and I did. Finding out in late July of 2021 that I passed was amazing. I was so proud in myself that I could do that and that I knew most of the information on the test. Passing the test holds a significant place in my heart because I was able to take and pass a college level test.
