This would be a good book to teach that sometimes your differences can be beneficial, as it was in this story.

De Paolo continues the adventures of Strega Nona. This time, her heartbroken, but vain, niece comes into town and she attempts to solve her love life problems. This would be a good book to teach picture sequence and story comprehension, because of how the illustrator organized the pictures to show the context of the story.

This would be a nice book to teach about adoption and a lot of the complex feelings that might go into these kinds of situations. It describes the relationship between a newly adopted puppy and his mother (who is a cat), and how they adjust to this new situation. It's very endearing.

This book goes back into the a time of struggle and persecution. It's from the point of view of the storyteller's grandmother and her experience facing discrimination as a Jew in Soviet Russia. This is a good book to talk about discrimination  and prejudice against certain groups of people.
