I think the article 30 Classroom Procedures to Head Off Behavior Problems is a good article. Two of the times I notice the majority of behavior problems is transitioning from one activity to another (especially transitioning from one center to another during math) and what to do when students are finished with their assignment. Thees are procedures that take the longest for me to teach my students and that are some of the most important. We are still working on not shouting out "I'm done!" when we are finished with a task. I think continuing to model expected behavior and recognizing students that are modeling expected behavior is one way to help students remember our procedures.
-Brittany Pratt

I found the article how to teach students with behavior problems interesting and pertaining to me and my classroom. I try to pick and choose my battles but sometimes fall into that trap of more negative than positive reinforcement. I want to start writing down issues with students and listing how I handled it so that I can actually reflect and keep a record on just how the behavior changes either positively or negatively. I feel this will make me more self-conscious about my classroom and behavoir management processes.

I decided to focus on this article because I have several children that can be very disruptive to our class routine and I wanted to review strategies that may help these students, benefit the other students in my class, and help me maintain my sanity. What I've realized is, sometimes I forget to praise these students for "small" victories (walking into the classroom, attempting an assignment....) So, I plan to be more consistent with praising these students.
I also, found it interesting that the article recommended that we should Reduce Privilege access. After defining privileges that the students have- the teacher sets in place a rule system for taking those away. I sometimes feel like we REWARD our students when they display negative behaviors.
-Nikkole Gilmore

I use brain breaks, like gonoodle in my classroom when I find my students are beginning to get restless (especially on rain days). I really like the different activities and directions in the packet, and most of them are new to me. I think my students would really enjoy some of the ideas and I could easily tie in some of our curriculum while doing them. l plan to try to do some of the activities to help reengage my students and help them release some of their energy to get focused back on learning when they begin to get antsy!
Shannon Land

This is my first experience as the "push-in" teacher rather than the classroom teacher. I wish I had read this article at the beginning of the year. It would have been a help to establish procedures and expectations for all the teachersm and what we wanted the classroom experience to be like. The article discusses the importance of planning together. We have had trouble with this because our common planning time is often interrupted and we really do not get a chance for long-term planning. I would like to have a form or checklist to help facilitate conversations of what both teachers would like the co-teaching experience to be.

I found the Guided Reading Article interesting because I am still working on getting my "RISE" time to fully come together. I like how it talks about focusing in on what the OTHER students, who are not in the small group with the teacher, are doing. These students need tasks that are simple, low maintenance, and easily independent for each student. That way students are actually on task and do not need help figuring out what to do. I also liked that the article gave suggestions as to what kind of centers would be good to utilize during this time. It was nice to know some of my centers are on that list. As long as students are working on differentiated review, that should be a good start for getting students engaged and on task during their center/desk time.
