To me, computational thinking is being introduced to a problem and using skills from computer science to solve it (ex: breaking down the problem into smaller parts, recognizing patterns, using those patterns in other similar areas, and coming up with a rule set to tackle future problems). Computational thinking can be used in every subject area, not just the STEM ones. By using computational thinking, students are expanding their critical thinking skills.

Computational thinking is looking for patterns and solutions to problems. Breaking down problems into manageable parts, looking for relevant patterns, and creating solutions using stps or rules can be used in all content areas to foster critical thinking and build stamina.

Computational Thinking is the act of taking a problem, understanding what the problem is by breaking it down into manageable pieces, and then developing ways to solve the problem by using patterns. This will help develop analytical skills, the ability to relate things to one another, and confidence working with technology.

Computational Thinking is made up of four parts that we use everyday.

Decomposition, Pattern Recognition, Abstraction and Algorithmic Thinking. We see these areas on math class, our writing process and anywhere we need to problem solve. I love helping students understand all parts with ice cream!
