I love reading this book every March (Read Across America month). I enjoy this book because it was the very first book I learned how to read as a child. As a reading teacher, I share this experience with my students and it also motives them to read. They love the repetition and silly words. We also make green eggs and ham and they try new foods which I think is a very valuable lesson because... "try it, you might like it!" I read the book as a read aloud to Pre-K and Kindergarten children. I work with 1st and 2nd graders on reading the book on their own.

This book is a story about a little boy names Max and his imaginary friends. Max is sent to his room without dinner and he imagines that he travels to another land. On the other land, Max discovers monsters that become his friends and eventually call him the king of the monsters. Max plays with the monsters and eventually feels the need to punish them as he was, go to their rooms without dinner. Max goes home and discovers that his mom left him a hot dinner in his room.

I love this book and have loved it since I first encountered it in elementary school. The book is geared to younger readers, around 5-6 years old. I read this story to my son when he was just learning how to read, probably around 4 or 5 years old (he's 27 now). The book encourages children to use their imagination and showed me that it was okay to explore the worlds that exist in my head.

This story is about a boy and a tree that becomes his best friend. As the boy grows, the tree gives things to him that he asks for. Apples to eat, branches to swing from, wood to build a home, till he is grown and the tree is left as a stump after she gave and gave and did not expect anything in return. This book is fun and heartwarming. The friendship between the boy and tree can be discussed while reading and the meaning/ lesson within the story can be explained and stick with a child at a young age. My mother read this book to me every night when I was a child and it still tears me up to this day. Such a positive message of kindness! This book is perfect for a read-aloud for K- grade 3.

This book is about a cute and colorful little girl exploring and identifying her moods she feel every day. Her mood changed from silly, to bad, to angry, joyful, confused, quite, excited, cranky, lonely, happy, discouraged, heavy and gray, to great. As she is going through her moods she expresses what is happening to her during different situations and how she handled her moods. She realized that moods are something that happens each day and no matter what she will be okay.
I absolutely love this book! I remember the first time I went to Barnes and nobles with my mom and saw this amazing book on the book shelf. This book helped me understand and appreciate my emotions and others too. I also loved the way the little girl expressed how she felt in her own way. This book is great for 4-8 years olds but, it is never to early to learn about your emotions. Today I am HAPPY!How do you feel today?

10 Little Ladybugs by Melanie Gerth. It's about, you guessed it, 10 little ladybugs who, through a series of accidents, lose each other one by one in the garden, but in the end, they find each other again. It's my favorite because my dad used to read it to me when I was little. Its art is beautiful and the story has a happy ending which is, in my opinion, necessary for a kid's book. It's appropriate for children 1 years to 7 years.

This bedtime classic is about a little rabbit getting ready for bed and saying goodnight to everything around him. Goodnight Moon is my favorite children's book because of the fond memories I have of reading it to my daughter. It was a gift from my parents when she was born. Either her dad or I would read it to her every night and, as she got older, the rabbit's bedtime routine became part of our own. With its rhyming and repetitive language, I think it is one of the very first books to share with a child. It is an appropriate read aloud for infants and toddlers.

This book is about an old lady who swallows a fly and continues to swallow other animals to take care of the animal she swallowed before. I know, creepy right, but young children seem to love it! It's my favorite book because it's funny and intriguing to young children. You can see them wondering why she swallowed a fly and so on, and what is she going to swallow next. You can easily create lesson plans and activities around this book. This is an excellent read-aloud rhyming book along with fun and exaggerated illustrations. This book can also be used to reinforce sequencing as students can retell each piece of the story in order. Additionally, there are multiples books in this series including theme-based editions to match holidays and seasons. I think this book is age-appropriate for children ages four through nine years old.

I think my favorite children's books are the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne. It's about a brother and sister, Jack and Annie, who have this tree house that will take then back in time when they open a book in the tree house. They go back in time, explore and go on adventures, and help solve problems with the people who live in that time. It's my favorite because it's one of the first series I remember reading and thinking "I want to read more of this." It played a major part in igniting my love for reading. It's appropriate for read alouds for children aged about 6-10.

My favorite children's book is "Words and your Heart" by Kate Jane Neal. This is my favorite children's book because it talks about how words effect our feelings in many good and bad ways in a Childs perspective. The book gives very descriptive images and words to get the children thinking and engaged in the story. It is very loving and touches your emotions. The book age appropriate audience would point to the ages 4 and up. I first read this book this year at the beginning of the month to my prek friends. I went out and purchased my own copy to read more often throughout the year. This is a very short and simple story with few words on each page with great big photographs.

I have always disliked being asked what my favorite book is because it’s so hard to choose just one. As a little girl I always looked for books with animals in them specifically Pigs , so “Charlotte’s Web” was a big one for me. Since I have started working with children and reading to them, Pete the Cat just holds a special place in my heart. I really love reading “Pete the Cat, I love my white shoes”, by Eric Litwin.
In this book, Pete gets a brand new pair of white shoes. He is so happy and walking along, singing his song and life is good. On his walk throughout the book he steps in piles of different things which mess up his brand new white shoes. He steps in strawberries that turn his shoes red , blueberries that turn his shoes blue, mud to make them brown, then gets them wet to make them white again . Pete doesn’t let it bother him or stress him and he keeps walking along and singing his song . Pete doesn’t let anything get him down. The take away I got from this book is no matter what happens in life ( or what you step in or get into) it will be ok in the end . Just keep moving along and singing your song ( be yourself) because it’s ok. Or like Pete likes to say, “it’s all good!”
This book is so much fun to read, all the Pete books are. It’s interactive, the children can sing along …. “I love my white shoes , I love my white shoes ….” The kids love it. I read this to my preschool class of 4 year olds.
I like to think I am like Pete in some ways . I love to sing out loud and have a good time. If I get stressed or we don’t have a good day, I like to sing to them to get them smiling and to realize “it’s all good!” I get them involved and moving and we make the best of it . Life is fun and learning is fun!!!

This books gives me so much warmth and love while cuddling up next to them at bed time , that my daughter repeats half the book to me by now. My daughter alone struggles with expressing her feelings and this book has been able to help her open up some. This was read to me when I was her age as well so it’s a family tradition. I would suggest reading this book to ages newborn - toddlers .

My favorite children’s book is Same, Same but Different by Jenny Sue Kostecki-Shaw. The children’s book Same, Same but Different is about two little boys who live in different countries and communicate with letters and pictures. Elliot lives in America and Kailash lives in India. Although the two friends live in completely different countries, they soon begin to learn that they have so much in common like climbing trees and going to school. This is my favorites children’s book because it allows children to recognize and understand that although children may come from unique backgrounds and cultures, you should never judge a someone before getting to know them, because you could end up being so similar. Same, Same but Different is appropriate for a read aloud age level of 5-7 years.
