He is the first Canadian to walk in space since he was a part of two shuttle missions which also led to him being a commander on the International Space Station. His job was to operate the Canadarm which was the mechanism attached to the ISS (international space station) to obtain shipments of materials from Earth to the orbiting station.

An astronaut is an individual who is trained to professionally command, operate or serve as a crew member on board a space craft. Much like Chris Hadfield mentioned earlier much extensive training is required in both the theory and practical specifics in both aviation and space science. It is known to be one of the most respectable jobs as there are not many spot available and it is one of the hardest to get jobs to acquire as well. The type of post-secondary education required to enter this job field is a bachelor's degree in engineering, biological science, physical science, computer science or mathematics.
