This project is one of my biggest things i've made from scratch.all the leather in upholstery scraps, sewn together by hand, and riveted to a sheep skin to make a heavy duty mantle cloak for the cold wet seasons, and for a added touch to fit with the aesthetic of the build i used rabbit bone found in the wild to make toggles to keep the front closed.

for every orc group they have their theme within the game setting and history, this just shows off the details i am for when creating costume for the Frostbears.
What are the Frostbears?

The Frost-Bears are a group of orcs who follow a style that takes heavy inspiration from inuit tribes,Sami reindeer herders, and fantasy game Skyrim. Using materials such as Furs and hides, ivory, scrimshaw carved bone items, but using colours like Ice blue, beige. As a group we use this brief as a guideline to create a uniform group so we can be recognised, but also allows for a personal twist to the look.

I love making and designing things.
I jump at the chance to make a prop or costume. I have a wide range of experiences;
I had work experience working at Hackney Empire theatre under the wing of Lotte Collett the costume designer, making costumes for Aladdin the pantomime. I found this very exciting as I was plunged in at the deep end and was making things straight away which was scary at first but a big confidence boost to see my work, as they trusted a novice with creating important articles such as headdresses for main characters and multiple articles of clothing. I took a lot of knowledge away from this, like using industrial sewing machines and over lockers and other types of fabrication, but the biggest thing to take away from it all would be having a taste of what working in the theatre industry is actually like.
My first job was working at Diamond Build PLC as a labourer.
This job taught me it's good to work in different types of fields as you gain a better perspective of how things work and may also pick up some skills through those experiences, so it's always good to try different things even if they aren't related to your current situation.

I've been kayaking for 6 years, 2 of which as a paddle sports instructor at Leaside Trust, I have also done a lot of volunteering there. This hobby has been a big part of my life and has taught many things such as the ability to coach people with confidence, and helped me use my initiative and take the lead of sessions. I have also learnt how to drive a powerboat and also know first aid training, it has also taught me good work ethic.

Another passionate hobby that ties in with my creative side is Live, Action, Role-play(LARP) . This hobby has given me creative direction and helped me develop my skills in costume design. I enjoy LARP as it has really built my confidence and social skills as well as developing me as a person over all. It has also allowed me to make new friends from all walks of life and experience new things that I normally wouldn't in everyday life. I have made my own Orc costume from scratch while following a brief and interpreting the character in my own way. I have learnt to work with leather and other materials such as animal bones and sheepskin. I have further developed my weathering skills which are key to making clothing/props look lived in rather than just a costume.

I don't tend to follow many makers as they are often not individually celebrated like they should be, but one that stands out to me is Adam Savage. I really admire his work and how much detail he puts into his creations. He has inspired me to create many projects from watching his prop building videos on YouTube. As someone who is a very hand's on learner, I find his videos on different techniques very useful.
When it comes to how I develop an idea I'm definitely inspired and look at history for references as I find there are many concepts and stories that can be manipulated into a creation, such as myths and fantasies.

My goal is to be working in the Theatre and film industry, working in all areas, from making costumes, props, and stages, I would like to have a variety of skills meaning I can be versatile and knowledgeable. Maybe one day I would be working on a film similar to Lord of the Rings, or Mad Max, I love both these film for the insane attention to detail and care into all detailing in the costume, props, make-up and locations, and follow strong character creation and immersive fantasy but in completely different settings.

I can't wait to start studying and further developing myself and my creative skills to a professional level.

I made the mantle, the skirt and the shield cover, most of the materials where either from a charity shop or recycled sofa leather, this costume inst done as i am always making alterations to it. here are the brief guidelines,

Feel: Proud, practical, poor, old, worn, independent, physical, fierce.

Influences: Costume is heavily influenced by the Dark Ages; weapons and armour by the Lord of the Rings.

Materials: Practical and hard wearing materials like wool, hessian, canvas and especially leather. Materials are usually dyed or stained to protect them and to hide mud or dirt. They also use iron reinforcing clothing with plates of iron and patches of chain.

Colours: Dull or dark natural shades, particularly brown. Primary colours such as blood red or midnight blue may be used for contrast or to highlight an item.
