Routine and Structure benefit children by teaching them independence, a sense of security, and it supports cognitive and emotional development.

1 example is when the children have quiet time at the daycare, some parents let their children nap only for an hour because they end up staying up late that night, but on Fridays, they’re allowed to nap for as long as they please since it’s a weekend and they don’t have to wake up early for daycare the next day. There’s a couple children that still nap for about an hour as they are used to napping that long. They are used to the routine of nap time.

Another example is the children know what time is snack time after their nap. If they wake up earlier than snack time, they know that it is time to read books before snack time so they know where to go (to the book area) rather than going anywhere else in the classroom while their friends may still be sleeping. Then once reading time is over, they go to the washroom to wash their hands before they get their snack.

-Lisa

It is beneficial to them as it reminds them we are all friends at day care, this improves their social and emotional development.

Snack time is beneficial as these healthy foods help build stronger muscles and bones, maintains energy levels to support focus and learning.

Angel A.

Routine and structure is so beneficial for the children because it helps them timely, when they just get into daycare it is free play until 9:20, at 9:20 we ask the children to clean up and everyone is to help each other, after that they know to go to circle time and we all greet each other with good morning. Most kids know that it is snack time after circle time which is 10:00 and we get them to wash their hands beforehand.

Routines are great benefits because it teaches them it’s not always free time to play, there’s reading a book, arts and crafts and sometimes playing out which they get excited for too. Routines help them stay clean and healthy, as we serve healthy food that benefits their body, mind, and teeth. It helps them keep track of what comes next also!

Hattie Aningaat.
