         <description><![CDATA[<div>Formative assessments are considered part of the learning, they need not be graded as summative assessments (end-of-unit exams or quarterlies, for example) are. Rather, they serve as practice for students, just like a meaningful homework assignment. They check for understanding along the way and guide teacher decision making about future instruction; they also provide feedback to students so they can improve their performance. Educational consultant Rick Stiggins suggests "the student's role is to strive to understand what success looks like and to use each assessment to try to understand how to do better the next time." Formative assessments help us differentiate instruction and thus improve student achievement.<br><br>Thank you for taking this course!          <description><![CDATA[<div>The Digital Formative Assessment Tools that were accessed within this course I found to be very valuable. Formative Assessment is definitely an essential part of the teaching process. It measures student engagement and participation, student understanding and knowledge, and aides the teacher in gauging the level of rigor that is appropriate for the students within the class. Each class and each student are very different and have unique needs. These assessment tools allow the teacher to make any necessary modifications all the while enhancing the lesson and enhancing the learning being performed within the classroom. I plan to use several of these tools all throughout my course this year. I will be using them to quickly quiz students and check for understanding. I will be using them to create discussions about material we are learning in class. I will be probing students for prior knowledge using many of these tools as well, so that we can continue to delve into greater depth of material. I was very excited to foster greater knowledge of digital forms of assessment that I will also be incorporating into my Google Classrooms!</div>]]></description>

         <title>I think that formative assessments are essential in the classroom because it helps us mold the learning experience of our students.  We are able to tailor the lesson and reteach concepts from the ongoing feedback that we are getting in checking for students understanding.  These digitals tools in particular are great because our students are really into the digital world and these platforms are more engaging to them. These are assessments are also known as assessments for learning because it helps the teacher determine adjustments that need to be made to lessons.  The periodic use of digital formative tools makes it much easier for the teacher to keep track of student academic progress.  This data is then used to plan or adjust future lessons.  I plan to use digital formative tools through the course of the school year to help plan better lessons based on the needs of the students.  This will ensure that students are prepared by the time they take a summative assessment.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I loved some of these digital assessment tools. The instant feedback to supplement the formative assessment process is such a great tool to have. Using technology to engage our students works. Being able to draw them in and simultaneously gauge their learning progress is excellent. As teachers, we need the quick feedback that these digital tools offer so that we can adjust our lessons for the next day, or rest of the week, accordingly. I definitely plan on implementing the goformative option that was a part of this course. We already use quizlet, kahoot, and I've used plickers as well. They are all good, but I liked the option of also putting up an ongoing discussion board that students can comment in as the class is in progress. I think mentimedia was a good option for something like that. Will definitely use these resources. Thank you!</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I really enjoyed learning about the different digital formative assessment tools available. I teach LIFESKILLS so I am constantly checking for learning and always reteaching the materials. I definitely have found that my students learn more when they don't think they are doing traditional work, so moving towards digital assessment will allow me to collect data to prove growth and understanding. I can use these forms of assessment during all lessons as a fun way to grab student attention in warm-ups using Answer garden, assess comprehension of chapter readings using Quizalize, and practice vocabulary using FlipQuiz. These tools will also allow me to collect data on IEPs when appropriate in a different format, which I really like. Overall, this class was very informative, and I will be using the different formative assessments to supplement learning in my classroom.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Formative assessment is important to use at all stages of learning since it gives feedback on what students know and what they are struggling with. I like some of the digital methods found in this training a lot, especially those that would offer a voice to otherwise shy students, like Today's Meet and Popple.  I would like to try to incorporate those. I also like how there are a variety of digital assessments that could be used. This can keep students interested rather than bored, and offers ways to turn it into fun games, like Kahoot and Plickers, when points are assigned. Students are competitive! I have used Kahoot before, but I would really like to try out Plickers.</div>]]></description>

They give you an idea of whether your lessons have been effective or whether you need to turn back around and try a different angle.  They also can be used as another method to engage students while finding out what they have learned and then lead them to more information that can open up new windows of learning.  I use these tools to break up the class, as a test review (not quite formative at that point - although we do use the answers we get to review the weaker questions at the time, and sometimes as a flip so we can have deeper discussions later.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Formative assessments are extremely useful for identifying students who need intervention before the summative assessment. They can pin point misconceptions an entire class has, and allow teachers to quickly address it and/or adjust their lesson to make sure the students master the content.  I will use some of the tools that I found, especially the tools that did not require students to each have their own device (such as plickers) due to that being an ongoing issue. I will also use some tools to assign homework or do a pre assessment at the beginning of tutoring sessions.</div>]]></description>
