All-Star Cheerleading

It sounds pretty dumb, but there is a huge culture within the all-star cheerleading community. I didn't really realize it when I was still competing, but you spend hours everyday with a group of people, and you're all working together to accomplish the same goal so it makes sense that a culture would build and grow.

Being a part of this culture really helped shape my personality. I started cheerleading around 12 and stopped competing when I was 18 to cheer for SLCC. College cheerleading is not even close to the same thing, but it all-star cheerleading is too expensive. I'm now 23, but for some reason it doesn't ever seem to leave you, no matter how long you have been away from it. I still think about competing and miss it

I love ABA therapy, mostly because of the incredible things I have seen it do, and partly because of the culture and people involved in it! I love my co-workers and my clients/their families, regardless of how different everyone is, we all have the same goal in mind and will do whatever it takes to help the children succeed. I have also learned that we won't make good progress unless we all work together and trust each others ideas and opinions.

There is also a disability community that I have always been an advocate and support system for. I have worked with people with disabilities for about 5 years now and I have learned the most incredible lessons from everyone of my clients, even if they never spoke a word to me.

This is another one that sounds kind of dumb, but I promise it is definitely a real culture. There are sort of two sub-groups within this community. There are people who are avoiding certain foods for medical reasons like allergies, and there are people who are avoiding certain foods to improve or maintain a healthy lifestyle. Some people, like me, are in both groups. The main difference between the groups is that people with allergies or other medical conditions, are not exactly concerned with the nutritional facts of the food they are eating, as long as it doesn't harm them, they will eat it.

This culture is interesting because it's the most helpful and guilt-free culture I have ever been a part of. Everyone is concerned with each-other's health, and wants to share any new recipes, vitamins, treatments, etc. that might be helpful.

My great-grandparents immigrated to California from Mexico in the hopes of providing a better life for themselves and their future children. Unfortunately, they struggled to build a life in America because they had very strong Mexican accents. This caused them to really resent their Mexican heritage and strive to teach their children to be as American as possible. I wish that they would have been treated better and kept our Latin culture more alive, but I understand the pressure they felt to let it die.

Being a part of the animal loving culture really brightens my day. It is mostly virtual, but there have been a few times where I meet a fellow animal lover out in the community and we have a nice conversation. One of my favorite ways to interact with this culture is on snapchat. I am in a group chat where participants send pictures of their cats whenever they feel like it. I really enjoy it. I also follow many pages on social media where daily posts about animals are made. I love seeing animal posts on social media as opposed to anything else.
