I think that there should be some figures/authorities which are called to check if an industry is doing greenwashing or not. Like the vehicle inspectors, but for industries/companies and that are recognized at a national level.

Also, it would be nice having some tips from professionists releated to this topic. They could teach us how to recognize greeenwashing, where to look while doing the grocieries and other.

Try to deconstruct the supply chain that led to the creation of a certain good. Understand that the shorter and more localized the chain that originated that good, the more sustainable that might be. Then of course, that is no guarantee.

The best response to greenwashing at the individual level is consumer consciousness, awareness of what one is buying. We should try to go beyond slogans, advertisements and passive consumerism. Yet being able to do so constitutes a privilege, hence other solutions are needed.

Businesses involved in short supply chains should be able to validate the sustainable character of their good by referring to lables similar to B-corp, while also cooperating to reduce transportation costs, logistical issues...

And what about taxing goods in relation to how long, delocalized and unsustainable production processes are?

deconstructing greenwashing should be done also at a more local level, for policies concerning the territory. When a local government would like to implement a new policy or build some new infrastructure, there should be more public participation and debate, especially if these projects are proposed as "environmentally friendly". The community should ask if it is actually sustainable or if it comes with hidden costs and externalities.
