Mother often compares Son to Mervin and Cheryl. She criticise son for not have a good job like Mervin and Cheryl. For example Mervin works as a successful doctor (neurosurgeon) and Cheryl works as a lawyer. Mother also says “You haven’t never gotten rid of that stupid,childish, harebrained idea, have you? Why can’t you just get a respectable job like Mervin?” This suggest that Mother does not approve Son’a ambition and his job. She see his job as a Low-class job and not respectable.
