I don't really agree with filming Struggle Street in places of low socio-economic status. Like the articles said, it shows only 1 side of the story and tells nothing of the community spirit and connection seen in these places. Instead of granting funding for a show that rich people can watch about "poor" people to make them feel involved and considerate of others situations, why don't we send the funding to building more schools and getting people out of the cycle of poverty. Not saying that there are no benefits of bringing a voice to people living in struggled areas, I just think more proactive SOLUTION could be put into place than merely filming a show about it.

I somewhat agree with the opinions represented in the two articles. I believe that there is more to the towns that were shown on struggle street. In struggle street season two it was predominantly negative connotations to the town of Wagga Wagga and the people in and around. However, that was a small sample of the population. Not to say that their struggles aren't important but they did put a negative light on the town. As like the article said people are proud to be raising a family and live in a rural community. The series put a negative light on the people struggling saying that the whole town is unhappy, etc; however, this is in fact not true. When we compare this to other countries that experience poverty some people are happy and grateful for what they have. For example communities in Africa, many are smiling and enjoying life. However, I do believe struggle street did bring needed attention to the issue of poverty in Australia and made some people more aware and grateful for what they have.
There is also a strong indigenous relation to the land (in Inala) by bringing in struggle street I think it adds a negative connotation to indigenous heritage.

Reading this article makes me consider a different perspective. It is very honest and on point. It is wrong to infantilise and pathologise people living on or below the poverty line, and this is what a person who lives in a suburb "Struggle Street" wants to film in feels like. Perhaps they could go about a different way of portraying the struggles people face, with these people at the drawing board, rather than being the simple subject of it.

I agree because they are saying that this specific suburb is bad or trashy because of a certain situation shown on camera. Just because of this they are saying the whole suburb is bad. The suburb may also be good and have good people in it and through this show it depicts it as dangerous and unsafe. This affects communities within it and makes no one want to live in those suburbs.

I am quite neutral towards the two articles as they mentioned some valuable points about SBS filming at low-economic places in Australia. Although, in a way I think it is fine to film in these places but I feel as though the filming crew did not give the 'characters' the freedom that they deserve. Furthermore, as the articles mentioned, the stories that were portrayed by SBS was somewhat inaccurate and I agree with this statement of interpretation.

I agree with both the articles, filming in rural towns that are small and are bound to have issues, its taking advantage of the poor to make money. yes, making a documentary about the hard life in these towns is a good way to open people's eyes, but they don't capture the good parts of the community and the part of the towns where people feel safe and have a good time. the solution to filming these documentaries could be a lot better, such as giving a good chunk of the money to those towns to build more buildings and schools and give better financial support and more security.

I disagree with the opinions presented in the articles. I see that struggle street is trying to show the audiences the perspectives of outskirt towns and their struggles they go through. The articles are saying that, especially with the people in the town of the documentary, are the ones having bad responses to the series; they are saying like its false information, the series is making our town seem bad. But I feel like the complete opposite, where I think the information really make the 'rich' see this as a learning opportunity, knowing what they are going through and also encourage a chane

I understand the points and arguments that the authors are portraying in their articles. Overall I don't believe that there is a huge problem with filming these people living in this society, especially if they have agreed and given permission to do so. I understand how all of the positive traits of these people are not shown in the documentary, but I don't feel like that is the point that Struggle Street is trying to make. The point of struggle street is to show the struggles that these people go through on a day-to-day basis, and what makes their society different from the ones that we live in.

The series struggle street focuses mainly on the struggle, neglecting the rich culture the town provides. Twisting and using the residence's thoughts to portray an image of horror and tragedy. Only showing the bad parts e.g the stolen cars, and drug addiction. However, the series fails to add episodes about the rich culture and inspiring leadership sparking from the townies.

I agree with the opinion that it only displays the weaker aspects of these communities, and that a broader perspective of these communities would better the viewers perspective of them. However I disagree with the argument that it is solely used as entertainment. Saying that this show doesn't support the communities in need of help is not true. as for even if it doesn't display the full picture, it still relays the right message.

I think that Struggle Street was a good show for informing the wider community about poverty, homelessness, abuse and lack of government support etc, and helped the audience to recognise and begin to understand what life is like in the rural areas of their own city. However, it didn't fully capture the way the 'characters' truly feel. Sure, we know they feel upset, angry and forgotten about by the government, but as the articles said there was no insight on the connection and pride these people feel to their community and their land. I believe it was slightly unfair for people to come and intrude into one of the characters lives, for example Rodney, and tell the audience all about he is struggling with substance abuse, abandonment, mental health issues and loneliness but not actually do anything about it to help him. Instead, we just saw how he is constantly trying to become a better version of himself with the non-existent support around him. Alternatively, we could have provided him with funding to get help and helping him reach out to his family. There is no point in showing us how hard their lives can be and just leaving the audience to sit and feel bad whilst not actually doing anything about it.
