This is at the pier over in Mt. Pleasant. This spot brings me peace. I can come here and just decompress. Since moving down here in 2020, I have searched for a spot like this. A place of zen. I am glad I have found it. In today's society, there are a lot of problems that occur. From violence, drug overdoses, political issues, and so much more. It is easy to drown in a sea of sorrow living in present times. We all need a place of peace we can go to. Back home in NY, I had a similar place but less traffic. I could go there and tune everything out. Moving down to SC and going to CofC has opened up my eyes. I have dug into the past of Charleston. Being African American, there were a lot of emotions that surged through my mind. Nonetheless, there has been a progression. I went to pick these things up and place them in the trash bin, which is not too far away from both of the locations I found the remains of a firework and tinfoil, aside from a few smaller items. One issue with it though is there is constantly trash being thrown everywhere. Another is there are many different types of animals on my road, dogs, cats, goats, a few cows, a donkey, horses, and chickens. But these animals aren’t always kep locked up the best and sometimes can pose dangers to others, especially the children playing outside or walking around. The other problem is graffiti. My daughter has met so many new friends and I have been able to meet and get to know my neighbors. Recently the construction company has decided, against earlier promises, that it plans to build a new section behind the trees. This upsets me, not only because they are breaking their guarantee and we are losing this area, but because there is no thought to how an influx of more people will affect the already full schools. Additionally, I've seen members of the community leaving cat food out for hungry kitties. But as soon as the road starts to get windy the side walk stops. One that I do not agree with are the horse carriage tours. Especially during the summer heat I think its crazy to have these animals pulling carriages all day. It's not uncommon to see or hear about these horses collapsing due to heat exhaustion. 
Another major issue is the flooding that happens all over downtown when it rains. Charleston has been trying to fix this issue for a while. It's my 45 minutes of decompression time. I love Daniel Island, they have a large system of walking trails, but they are slowly developing over many of them. This kills me. This section especially angers me as it used to be a large forest. It borders the wetland and is a key part of the local ecological system. I love animals and I get so angry when people adopt pets and then don't have the time or energy to take care of them. This poor dog is probably super stressed out right now. If you know you have a dog with severe separation anxiety, you should address it. I will admit there aren't as many as I used to see littering the side walk, but then again I also see Juul pods now. When Juuls first came out I did not expect to see the pods being disposed like cigarette butts. On some rare occasions I will see whole cigarettes or even packs just thrown anywhere. It really makes me upset, because when we were younger my sisters and I have tried so hard to get our dad to stop smoking.
