To be allowed independence is to be allowed to do as much as you can with as little support from other people as possible. Allowing independence lets people maintain their confidence and self-esteem because they are able to do what they want without help from other people. You can allow independence by giving a service user something that can help them in their daily lives, such as a wheelchair for someone with a disability affecting their ability to walk or a seeing eye dog for someone who is blind.

Each of us are different in our own ways but we all have the common qualities that make us all humans. For example you would need to give everyone choices of what to do and eat in a care home than force someone to eat or make them do what they don’t want to do and be nice to everyone else and give everyone have choices.

To be empathetic to someone means to show them support with what they want to do. It also means showing someone comfort if they are upset about something. It is important because if someone doesn’t show a patient empathy then the patient might think that you don’t care if you are a carer or a doctor. An example of being empathetic is if a patient’s husband died then the carer or doctor would treat them extra special and give them a shoulder to lean on but still keeping there professional distance.

Being honest

Being honest is telling the truth and being upfront which means not talking about someone behind their back. Honesty also means that an honest person doesn't do things that are morally wrong. If something you do is breaking the law or you have to hide it because you'll get in trouble, you are probably not being honest. Honesty is important because it shows yourself and with others shows how much you really care. It also demonstrates self-respect and respect for others. A caring attitude makes people stop and think. Honesty is also important because it creates peace of mind and promotes relationships of trust. For an example: If you see someone that is getting injured, you have to be honest and tell someone about it otherwise you could get into trouble.
