Ezra Pound refutes the American Dream. -Furthermore, he is the poet known for “defining and promoting a modernist aesthetic in poetry” or imagism which opposes romanticism. Imaginism focuses on precisely expressing, simplicity through a brief poem or image. -Though some of his poems are extremely miniature in comparison to others, to put simply “imagism aimed to replace abstractions with concrete details that could be further expounded upon through the use of figuration.” An example of Pound using imagism is his in one of his most famous works In a Station of the Metro.

Without grasping the concept of imagism the reader cannot understand Pounds literary works. Pound had very high intellectual expectations of his readers. Imagism is an antonym of romanticism and was created to oppose it. This implies that Pound’s imagist works go against the American Dream because romanticism focuses on deep emotions and “experimentation: in science, in institutions” and with a vast sense of freedom. The American Dream flows with ideals of freedom and technological development. A notorious imagist poet Wallace Stevens says "not all objects are equal."

Ezra moved to Italy and affiliated himself with fascism. Ezra began writing poetry after being inspired by fascism and Japanese haikus. Though some of his poems are extremely miniature in comparison to others, to put simply “imagism aimed to replace abstractions with concrete details that could be further expounded upon through the use of figuration.” This signifies that not all things are important and only the necessary details of life are necessary to the development of poetry. This goes against the American Dream because achieving something more than what is needed is irrelevant and disturbs that natural flow of peace in life.

Pound not only supporting Hitler's ideals but also being connected to many white supremacists that seek to divide people and change what the American Dream was meant to be, shifts my overall view of him. White supremacy suppresses the ability for anyone to be able to achieve greatness through working hard. If at ground level people aren’t equal in opportunities ect. How can anyone be able to achieve greatness? Only the people who aren't oppressed for being a minority have things set out to be fairer for them. This is how Pound being racist defies the American Dream
