For example when Andie is kicked out of the medical summer program she gets a dog walking job, meets a boy and has an amazing summer even though it was the exact opposite of what she planned. Andie has never been in a relationship that lasted more then three weeks she would always end it at three weeks because she had a fear of getting to close with a guy, but now she has been with a guy for more then two months and she tells him everything and is happy.

They used to have one but then Andies fathers work took over most of his life and his wife died and he never bothered to talk to Andie a lot. This are very awkward when they are in the same room, they can't hold a conversation and they don't bother to have dinner together until one day Andie stays out all night and forgets to tell her dad they get in a huge fight and she tells him how she feels. That they don't have a relationship it's like she doesn't even have a dad at all and he had no right acting like they were super close and that they were a perfect family.  

Once her father realizes that what she said is true they make a deal to have dinner twice a week together weather it is at home or at a restaurant they will have a better relationship. After putting their planing on motion they have become closer, can hold up conversations, and don't mind talking to each other.

Like anode dealing with her mothers death, she didn't go back to her old house or even ask her dad about things, she just left it alone and made things ten times harder to deal with. Bri's liking towards Wyatt, she could have tired to getting it going in the beginning when it would have been easier to deal with rejection but she waited to long and her feelings were even stronger. When Wyatt told her he liked someone else it was ten times worse then it would have been if she had told him months earlier. Andies said " it's better to face it." (Matson 328) when she realized her childhood home had been torn down long ago. That's when she realized that it was important to face you're problems or issues.
