As its name indicates, this election held at half the presidential term. That is two years after the new president'election. Still taking place on the first Tuesday following the first Monday of November, this election is of great importance.

This election is about the American Congress which is devided in two houses.
First, the House of Representative is composed by 435 seats renewed every two years.
Then, the Senate which is composed by 100 seats, senators have a six-year term. However, one third of the seats shall be renewed every two years.
In the presidential election, the majority of the congress is represented by the president's party. However in this new election, the trend can be reversed and the president's party can lose its majority.
