She stole this money because her boyfriend Sam Loomis had to give all of his money to his ex wife, so he was broke. She also stole the money because she was going to run away and start over. So she did, and after a long drive and getting stuck in a storm she decided to stop at the Bates Motel. She stops here because she regrets what she did. She then meets the manager, Norman Bates, whose mom is psycho. Later that night, Marion takes a relaxing shower. As she slips in, a figure appears and starts stabbing Marion to her death. That figure was Mrs. Gates, Norman's crazy mother. Later, Marion's sister Lila, Marion's boyfriend Sam and a private investigator Arbogast go to the Bates Motel to check on Marion because they noticed she was gone. When they get there, Mrs. Gates kills Arbogast, but the other two didn't know that so they reported a missing person to the police.
