This battle only took a couple of weeks but over 2000 Canadian soldiers were sent from from Winnipeg and Quebec City to fight the invading Japanese forces. On August 19th 1942 the main assault only lasted 6 house before strong German defences forced its commanders to call a retreat. Over 6500 infantrymen were supported by the Calgary regiment of the 1st Canadian tank brigade.
