I am also a mother of two children, and when I decided to apply for this grogramme one year ago, I had a lot of psychological struggles and I wondered if it was worth it to leave my children behind and go to study in a foreign country on my own. But I still came, and I think even as a mother, you should learn for life-long, pursue something, and be a role model for your children.

As the dean said that day, coming here is a journey, not a destination. I set three goals for this journey. The first one is to graduate in one year and get at least A grades in all courses, the second is to develop an app or mini program related to nature education, and the third is to keep fit and lose 10 pounds before graduation, so I have made a daily exercise plan.

Hopefully, by the time we graduate, each of us will be better than we are now.

Hello Hi everyone! My name is Hew Jie Ni, you can call me Jieni.
I'm Malaysian, born and raised in Ipoh, Perak, a beautiful town with great food and majestic cave temples. I'm a marine science graduate of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu and served as an intern at the Minerals and Geoscience Department Malaysia, Perak for four months.
I always had a strong interest in the marine environment and also conservation and preservation of the environment. What is more, such interest and passion drove me to earn an open water diving license issued by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), which subsequently let me discover what clear water has to offer. Having learned about the prolific marine and coral life, I reckon that sustainable development is one of the keys to maintaining as well as continuing life on Earth.
Since this is a rising trend at this stage, more and more countries and corporations will be focusing on this direction, I feel that this program meets my interest, and also guarantees my future employment possibilities to a certain extent.

I have participated in projects such as chemical health risk assessment (CHRA), chemical exposure monitoring, local exhaust ventilation (LEV) inspection, heat stress and noise boundary monitoring. I really gained a lot through this experience.

As for my interest, it has always been conserving and preserving nature as well as sustainability, which is why I have chosen to embark on this journey. Hope everything goes well for all of us and let’s have a meaningful journey in UM.
