Now it is awful hot, hard marching. The rainy weather and short rations have made a great many sick men. I have frequently had nothing for 36 hours but a cup of coffee and a few green apples." 

Life during the Civil War was difficult and tiring, because we had to wake up early very early every day, we fought only sometimes, and many people became homesick. Although my health may great, many men have become sick. Food is quite difficult to get, since there are many of us at the camp.

We do many drills throughout the day, and it becomes tiring day after day of the same routine. Although I do not get homesick very easily, many of my fellow soldiers did. They became very homesick, missing their wives, children, and many more people, and I felt bad for them, but I was Ok.
