We see this when Prospero decides to choose Ferdinand for Miranda. Prospero knows that Ferdinand is the prince of the kingdom which makes Miranda's relationship with him very useful. Prospero wants what is best for his daughter and living a life as a queen is a great outcome for Miranda. Miranda's perspectives and wisdom are more limited than Prosperos, which makes Miranda focus only on Ferdinand as a romantic option. Prospero was robbed of the royalty that he deserved, and Ferdinand has the access to the power Prospero lost. One example of this in The Tempest is when Miranda sees Ferdinand and falls in love with him. Miranda had not previously seen any guy her age before, so she thought that the first one she saw was the best. A good example of this is Prospero and Ariel's relationship. Prospero holds a lot of power and authority because of his ability to use magic. He abuses this power over Ariel when he decides not to let him go when he originally said he would. Prospero has no person keeping him in check, which makes his personal integrity to keep his promises the only thing that holds him to his word.

Power #2: Another example of this theme is when Antonio took over the kingdom while Prospero was studying magic. Prospero didn't have anybody keeping Antonio from taking the kingdom away from him, and so Antonio abused this authority to promote selfish gain over the kingdom.
