Father has 2 sons. The Younger son asks father for his share of the money and leaves on a journey. He wastes it all on prostitutes and gambling. He comes back, after losing all his money, and begs his father to make him his servant, as he does not feel worthy to be called his son. The father instead holds a massive celebration, for the return of his "dead" son. The elder son, who is disappointed tells his father "All these years I have slaved for you and never once disobeyed any orders of yours, yet you never offered me so much as a kid for me to celebrate with my friends.

But, for this son of yours, when he comes back after swallowing up your property -- he and his loose women -- you kill the calf we had been fattening." To which the father retorts "My son, you are with me always and all I have is yours. But it was only right we should celebrate and rejoice, because your brother here was dead and has come to life; he was lost and is found."
Source: https://www.catholic.org/bible/book.php?id=49&bible_chapter=15
