Without the mass production of every food we see in our stores would not be available. Irrigation is another key part of the food machine and takes up a large portion of the cost. Technology has also progressed irrigation by allowing access to water from places that couldn’t be used before. GMOs have made a mix between science and agriculture, allowing for produce and even animals to be designed for optimal consumability, however the ethics of this topic have been controversial. Environmental Effects of the food machine have been harmful in many cases because of Extensive Land Use and other factors that use and drain the surrounding resources.Monoculture is the production of only one crop, this allows for maximum output of yield because all the same requirements are met for all sections. Subsistence farming is for people who are growing food for themselves and their families. It usually involves less advanced and little technology and non to little of the yield is sold. Commercial farming however is very different, and involves selling the yield for maximum profit. The technology is much more advanced and can even involve gmos or genetically modifying the food itself.
