         <title>Greek educational system</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Greek educational system lasts twelve years, nine of them are obligatory. The preschool education consists of 2 years, the first of which is not obligatory. The obligatory education starts when the child is about five years old. The primary school stage lasts 6 years and the middle education stage lasts 6 years. The middle education consists of two stages: the junior high school (3 years) and Senior High School (3 years as well). The last year of the senior high school is a year of preparation for the University.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The educational system in Greece starts at a very young age and it is divided into three main levels: <strong>primary, secondary and tertiary</strong>.<br><strong><em>Primary</em></strong> education consists of kindergarten that lasts one or two years, and primary school that lasts six years (ages 6 to 12).<br><strong>Secondary </strong>education contains two stages: Gymnasio (translated as Middle or Junior High School), which is a three-year school and Lykeio or Occupation lykeio which is a      three-year school too                      (not obligatory).<br><strong>Higher Tertiary </strong>education is provided by Universities, Technological universities and Academies and usually last four years.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Portuguese Educational System <br><br>In Portugal, schooling begins at the age of 3 years old for children in Kindergarten that lasts three years. Then the primary school called the 1st Cycle of Basic Education is 4 years long. Following is the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education that lasts two years. Next comes the three years of the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education. Finally comes the Secondary School which takes 3 years, ending compulsory education. Attending a university is not compulsory, but most families want their children to attend. There is also Vocational Education for those who do not want to attend university.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Education in Spain is <strong>compulsory</strong> between the ages of <strong>6 to 16 years.</strong> Preschool education is non-compulsory, yet free of charge for all children ages 3-6.<br><br>Primary education lasts six years, followed by four years of compulsory secondary education at the end of which a Certificate of Education is received.<br><br></div><div>Students who hope to one day pursue university or higher vocational studies can, at age 16, enter the two-year Spanish Baccalaureate or <em>Bachillerato</em> program.<br><br></div><div>State education is free of charge from 3 to 18 years, although in some regions parents may be asked to pay for books or other materials.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>There are three categories of schools in the education system: public schools, state-funded private schools and private schools.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Serbian educational system <br>Preschool education is attended during the 1st grade enrollment year. It lasts for at least 4 hours a day for at least 6 months. After it, students pass an exam of ability to attend primary school at the age of seven.&nbsp; The school year for primary and high schools lasts for 9½ months. It begins on September 1, and ends in the half of June (June 15 ±5 days). The school year is split into 2 semesters and semesters are split into 2 quarters. The elementary school is divided into two stages: Lower grades (grades 1-4) and Higher grades (grades 5-8). In the lower grades, students are sorted into classes randomly and have only one teacher and classroom for all subjects, except for English, P.E. and, civics and religion. In the higher grades, students get a whole range of teachers and classrooms for the school subjects (old and new). After graduating from the primary school, students take a test called <em>Matura</em>. Secondary schools are divided into three types - gymnasiums, professional and craft school. The third level of education is at the university. <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Croatian education system consists of various schooling types: kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools. Holidays typically run for two weeks at Christmas, one week in April, and from mid-June to September.<strong><br><br></strong>Public education in Croatia is free from kindergarten until the end of secondary education, as it is subsidised by the Ministry of Education. <br><strong>Kindergarten</strong> is not compulsory, but children can enter as early as one year old.<br><strong>Primary education</strong> is compulsory in Croatia, and starts at the age of 6. There are nearly a thousand public primary schools, directed by the municipalities themselves. Primary schooling is divided into two levels:<br><br></div><ul><li><strong>1</strong><strong><sup>st</sup></strong><strong> through 4</strong><strong><sup>th</sup></strong><strong> grade</strong>, with one teacher per class focussing on subjects such as Croatian, mathematics, visual art (<em>likovna kultura</em>), nature and society (<em>priroda i društvo</em>), physical education, music, religion, and at least one foreign language (normally English),</li><li><strong>5</strong><strong><sup>th</sup></strong><strong> grade onwards</strong> is taught by specialised teachers for each subject. New subjects are also introduced: history and geography, chemistry, physics, biology, informatics, and a second language (German, Italian or French).</li></ul><div>The most common foreign languages are English, German and Italian, but Spanish, French and Russian are also taught in some schools.<br><br></div><div>Grading is done on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being “insufficient” (<em>nedovoljan</em>) and 5 “excellent” (<em>odličan</em>). 1 is the only failing grade.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>As determined by the Croatian state, people who only complete primary school are categorised as “unqualified workers” .<br><strong>Secondary schooling</strong> is optional in Croatia, although there is a strong movement to make it compulsory. There are different types of secondary education:<br><br></div><ul><li>Gimnazija</li><li>Vocational schools</li><li>Art schools</li></ul><div><em>Gimnazija</em> offers four different tracks, based on your speciality:<br><br></div><ul><li>mathematics, informatics and science (<em>prirodoslovno-matematička gimnazija)</em>,</li><li>foreign languages (<em>jezična gimnazija)</em>,</li><li>classics (<em>klasična gimnazija</em>),</li><li>general education (<em>opća gimnazija</em>).</li></ul><div>After four years of secondary education, <em>gimnazija</em> awards either a <em>Svjedodžba o maturi</em> or International Baccalaureate (<em>Diploma organizacije medjunarodne mature</em>).<br><strong>Vocational schools (</strong><strong><em>S</em></strong><em>trukovna škola</em>) can last between one and four years, and offer a practical education, at the end of which students are awarded a <em>Svjedodžba o završnom ispitu</em> and a vocational qualification.<br><br></div><div><strong>Art schools </strong>(<em>Umjetnička škola</em>) last four years and students are taught music, dance, visual art and, design before receiving a <em>Svjedodžba o završnom ispitu</em>.<br><br></div><div>The grading system used in secondary schools is identical to the primary school system.<br><br></div><div>Students used to take an exam to enter university, but this was replaced in 2009 by a State Secondary School Leaving Examination for all students.
