Their magical wings and horns made them the highest of all creatures, but it also made them a target to those who would do them harm. They became hunted and violently robbed of their magical parts.

The time came for both species to go into hiding. The unicorns decided they would bequeath their horns to an animal that live deep in the sea, that would never be seen, and that became the narwhal.

The pegasus disagreed and decided to hide their wings in plain sight among the many species of birds.

So today we have horses, which are perhaps unicorns or pegasus, the narwhal, which has the magical unicorn horn, and a mysterious variety of bird, who bears the magical pegasus wings and may not even know it.

The story may take place in the old time or in the modern day.
