One example of hypocrisy in history is done by Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson was a great man and was very influential to our nation but I think that he has been hypocritical before. First of all Thomas Jefferson had slaves but yet he thought slavery was evil. Another example of Thomas Jefferson being hypocritical is that someone who wrote the Declaration of Independence which is a document saying that the thirteen colonies are free but yet he owns people that are not free.

There are many examples of hypocrisy in the book "Chains" . One example is that many times in the book many characters beliefs change for who should win the war depending on who is around them or what is happening. One example of this is with Elihu Lockton his views often shift depending on who is in the room and their views on the war just to get himself out of trouble. One way that proves this is that the text sais "London? Never!" exclaimed Lockton. "England offers us nothing but taxes, stamps, and bloodshed." Also to show that his views changes the text says "How odd. Word from Boston is that you still lick the King's boots." (5.39-41).

There are many connections and differences between the two examples of Hypocrisy. First of all both examples take place in around the same time period. Also the example with Thomas Jefferson had to do a lot with slaves and Chains is basically all about slavery. Some differences about the examples of hypocrisy is first of all Thomas Jefferson was always a patriot but Elihu was more Loyalist than Patriot. Last of all Thomas Jefferson was usually always strong in his beliefs no matter what it was when Elihu was the opposite.
