Turn old textiles into new garments

Old clothes can be put into a machine that mulches them up and re-spin the yarns into new designs. Each household has one of these and you can download designs and or purchase new patterns. Each pattern can be altered specifically for your body type. You can use old textiles like pillowcases and curtains to be transformed into new clothes that fit you perfectly.

In my possible world people still want trend driven fashion and self expression but without harming the environment. You have a device that attaches to your compost bin and mulches the compost into liquid, adds bacteria to help fermentation and then the scum from the fermentation turns into a malleable fabric! the company that makes the devices provides tutorials on how to dye the fabric and how to drape it to make a garment that fits you. The fabric only lasts 1 week before it starts to biodegrade and it can be dissolved in water. The device is small and can be used on a balcony or any other small outdoors space and can be given back to the company if / when it stops being used. People can still have cool, trend pieces without any worry about overproduction.

A seasonal wardrobe, tailored to fit you.

The service gives you a seasonal capsule wardrobe, you can try on multiple items, all virtually using VR / hologram technology so you can see what you look like in them and you pick your favourite items. As part of this virtual trying on the garments are tailored to fit you. The clothes are then adapted to how you want them and provided to you for a season (about 4 months). All clothes are recycled and re-used after each season and you pay a monthly fee for the wardrobe. You can also get a discount on your monthly fee by providing good quality clothes of yours to the company that you don't wear.

A wardrobe that acts as an interchangable portal with others.
There will be approximately 30 items in each capsule that can be updated with new fabrics / details or be swapped with other users. The capsule builds a seasonal wardrobe by using your social media to build an algorithm to see what style choices you might like.

You pick your fabrics and colour for the season. The wardrobe refreshes every 5 - 6 months and customers can choose what shapes to keep and which to update into new fabrics. Outfits for the week can be planned according to the weather.

There is a 'fashion finder' feature which allows you to look into influencers wardrobes and tagged brands - could have the option to swap garments between wardrobes.

I believe my idea sits around probable & plausible. The idea involves around creating communities where clothes can be made, bought customised and transferred, which in some ways is already happening through online spaces such as Ebay & Depop. I would like to think my idea takes all of this a step further and adds a ‘human’ element to it – by creating circles of communities based on mutual interests & taste rather than a simple buyer-seller transaction. Most of the time clothes sold via resale and are probably no better than current fast fashion offerings. It is plausible because I think initially it would be an easy thing to make happen – between work friends & colleagues.

I would like my idea to initially start in person, with groups of mutual friends/colleagues/families coming together to exchange clothes and/or repair & customise the offers between them, however later down the line I think apps for clothes meet ups could be great, and would expand outside the initial circle by having one person from circle go on to create another with a community they’ve created. Eventually what would start off as a small localised thing could become globalised through a series of connections.

As this becomes more of a formal arrangement, there could also be a clothes broker in the middle of each community who organises the distribution and circulation of clothes through each community. Each community is around 10 people.
