It also allowed people to communicate faster than if they were to use a telegraph because the telegraph took more time. Another reason why the telephone was a good invention is  that it was cheaper to communicate. According to UBC it says, "The telephone was a very important invention of the nineteenth century which helped improve communications between people at a distance...No longer did people need to be co-located beside each other to be able to converse. Through the use of the telephone, people could have equally meaningful conversations at a distance, all the while preserving reciprocity.
