1st grade teacher: 3 years
I love the families that we serve at CPE. I also love the staff that we have and how close we all are with each other.
I appreciate data because it helps me know what exactly I need to teach my students. It helps me narrow down my instruction.
What makes me nervous about data is that we will take too much data and test our students too much and then we will not use the data for anything.

Intervention Coordinator/Teacher: Starting 4th year at CPE.

I love the students at CPE, they are inquisitive and curious. Although I have stepped out of having my own classroom, I enjoy getting to know all students and working with grades K-6. I also enjoy our cohesive team of teachers and support staff.

When looking at data I get nervous because I am aware that algorithms within data can perpetutite discrimination and inequalities. I would like to see CPE move towards data equity conversations in PLC's where teachers and staff have conversations that build capacity around the challenges that our students face. Grounding ourselves in the data in order to identify solutions.

I am excited to engage in conversations around data with my colleagues and students in-person this school year. My hope is that we take a whole-child approach and include SEL when looking at data points in order to fully understand our students' needs.

6th Grade Teacher, 3 years.

I love my coworkers and our students! They each make every day worth it and they constantly remind me of the positives when I'm having a rough day.

What makes me nervous about making data decisions is having to constantly find time to analyze the data and really understand what it's telling me. I'm nervous about seeing where my downfalls are as a teacher.

I'm also very excited about seeing those downfalls and seeing where I can change to become the best teacher that I can be! Data will allow me to see what I might be missing in the classroom and really cater to my students. It'll allow me to make the best overall decisions for my students.

Megan Splittstoesser
I was a First Grade Teacher. Starting this year I will be a Second Grade Teacher
I will be starting my 5th year at CPE

I love our students and families at CPE. They are the reason why I stay teaching at CPE.

I have a love/hate relationship with data. I love how data helps to see strengths and weaknesses in student learning and in how a teacher teaches. It is amazing when you see growth in both the learning and the teaching.

However, I also do not like when data is the only focus, or even the main focus. There is so much more to a child and a teacher than just scores. Learning is seen in many other ways as well.

The teachers are so dedicated to make each day great!
I really enjoy looking at data, and sometimes i really don't enjoy looking at data. I think data is great to see students area of growth and their area of strength.
What I don't love is that sometimes when we are looking at data we hyper focus on what needs to be improved before we are able to celebrate what students are being successful with in their education.

All the teachers at CPE care and love for their students and often share resources to help other teachers.
-I am often cautious when working with data that comes from standardized testing because I don't think it is the best tool to measure our students skills or abilities. Students can also have test anxiety or just a bad day the day of the test.
- I enjoy working with data because I believe it is a good way to reflect on my teaching and know what areas I may need to reteach.

Special education teacher: 6 years at CPE

I love learning something new every day from my co-workers, my amazing students, and their families!

Creating assessments and/or analyzing data correctly takes time, training and fidelity. There is a skill to it, just as there is to writing an assessment. I get nervous when not enough time or energy is dedicated to doing a thorough job with this task.

The excitement comes with what we can do with the data (e.g. conversations with students about their growth and areas to work on can empower them and give them ownership, using the data to support IEP goals, self-reflection and understanding what needs to be retaught or taught differently). The data that is gathered creates a road map of how to get from point A to point B, and ultimately, how the trip is going along the way.
