"My favorite Chaperone" Is about a girl that is from Kazakhstan and what her life is about as being a immigrant that was forced to move from her home to the USA. So far we have learned that her family has went threw a lot such as the parents losing their jobs, they had to sell most of there stuff to make a living in Kazakhstan, and they went down in hierarchy because of them losing their jobs. If I were to summarize what pages 193-200 was about the hardships of their lives. First they had to move to the United States because of the hardships in Kazakhstan then the kids where getting bullied causing the little brother to get into a fight. Overall "My Favorite Chaperone" is about the hardships that this family were forced to go threw due to being immigrants.

In "My Favorite Chaperone," Maya shares her passion for gymnastics and talks about her family's journey from Kazakhstan to America because her aunt sponsors her and her family. Maya's aunt Medina leaves for Chicago with her husband Bob and Maya and her family were upset since they knew no one else and her parents had to downgrade on their jobs from teachers in Kazakhstan to being a cleaner and a cab driver. Maya's experience with American culture was a shock for her since she wasn't used to it. Maya shares a close bond with her younger brother Nurzhan, who recently got suspended from school for fighting, but Maya isn’t mad at him instead because she knows he was bullied and teased for not being able to pronounce words correctly. She also struggles to balance her love for gymnastics, her family duties, and her desire for freedom.
