I am so sorry I missed the last meeting.  Jan shared some of the students ideas.  I like how they are stepping outside the box of the traditional libraries.  Going electronic and actually creating a space for someone to stop and relax as they read, I like it.  One idea I had while looking at them is, instead of building a shelter around the library, maybe they look at a way to connect the library to an existing bus shelter.  I’ve asked a friend of mine in Streets if she could provide me details on our standard bus shelter.  I’ll send them over if I can find them.  Just an idea.  In the meantime, I’ve attached a submittal for site furniture that I used on one of my park projects.  There’s info on the bench we used in it.  Let me know if you need anything else.

  • Shade sails can cantilever 
  • Don’t use wooden benches because they splinter in the Phoenix weather - see bench plans for possible retrofit
  • I love your idea of the QR codes - a major problem maintaining the Little Libraries is people leaving the doors open and books getting wet and dusty
  •  I like the idea of the solar panel for lights, fans, and charging devices while people sit and read
  • Next step: build a scaled model to see if your ideas work in real life the way you think they will on paper
