Combat trauma injuries require urgent and specialized care. When patient evacuation isn't feasible critical lifesaving care must be given at the point of injury immediately. However combat medics might require assistance while operating. With STAR the (System for Tele mentoring Augmented Reality) medics performing life saving procedures can easily receive guidance from remote experts. The local medic wears an augmented reality head mounted display which allows him to record the operating field. This allows the first person display to be visualized by the mentor. Additionally a drone mounted camera gives the mentor another view of the field. The mentor can give precise surgical instructions. This allows for the medic stabilize the patient before moving to a higher level of care.

My Opinion of STAR

STAR is an absolutely amazing system! I think this new innovation can only be beneficial to those in combat situations. My husband was in the Army and had to provide interventions to soldiers in the field but the medical experts were not there. STAR would allow for direct instruction of patient care and could save many lives. With STAR bleeding can be controlled and airways can be secured appropriately. I myself an in the process of joining the military as an operating nurse. The STAR system would be a great resource for me in training and in the field. Additionally STAR can be used in the civilian community as well. Flight nurses, paramedics, fire fighters and other first responders can use this system. In may rural areas it can be hours before a patient will arrive at a hospital for emergent care. With STAR critically ill patients can have immediate assess to higher level of care. .
