After waking up, Penelope prays to Artemis, goddess of the hunt, to kill her. Then Odysseus worries and pray to Zeus for a good omen. Zeus quickly responds with a strike of thunder to show he is there. Later at a feast, the suitors join and continue their plot to kill Telemachus. However, Amphinomus convinces the other suitors to call it off, when an eagle swoops down, with a dove in its talons. Throughout the feast, Athena wants to arouse Odysseus’s temper, and convinces a wealthy and arrogant suitor, Ctesippus, to throw a cow hoof at him. Athena continues to make the suitors do disrespectful things as they suddenly start to break into a hysterical laugh. Then, Theoclymenus points out omens of doom such as blood on the wall, and ghosts at the doors. However, the suitors continue to insult the king and show no respect.
