Not a rapper because that's way to constricting. I'm not at all the type to be put in a box. I can do it and learn it all if I want. I'm taking strides to help myself and grow personally while also helping the outside world.

Andre 3000 is one of the main reasons I am who I am musically. He started me on this path and doesn't even know it. As a child, I wasn't allowed to hear secular music growing up in a Christian household so I wasn't introduced to Andre as Andre, I met him as Sunny Bridges. I fell in love with instruments before the beats and the rap. I started back playing the piano right after seeing this show.
Donald Glover got my attention in high school. I didn't know myself, my identity and how to process being different. I wasn't very liked back then so I tried to adapt and be what everyone thought I should be. Childish Gambino's ability to tie in all of his creative powers while not losing his sense of self is so astonishing to me. You can't label what he is, you can't box him in. That's the type of person I want to be. The type of artist I will be.

MJ was always my favorite ever for dance. He was a bulldozer of talent. I always would follow along to his videos and dance along to his video game on the Wii and remember every step and every move to try to improve my dancing game. Music aside, his energy is what I admired. His performances made people go crazy. His dances and sharpness never left my mind, it was amazing. He was amazing. My beatboxing in my tracks are inspired by MJ and his talent! Rest in Power Mike!

90's R&B is always an inspiration to me and everything I do! I love it all, the skits, the transitions and the genuine feelings! Soul for Real is the first group that comes to mind, Candy Rain for ever lives on in my mind. That song is the vibe and the kind of replay value I want in all of my music. Smooth and bouncy with that nice vocal notes in the background.

GOALS

Taking care of my family and my people is really important to me. That's my driver, that's what's pushing me partly. Main thing I want to make sure of is that I don't lose myself in the process. Thats the main goal, ignore the success and money and all if that. I want to take care of my people and be unapologetically Christian Coffey. I always think of the J Cole interview when he's talking about having goals and when the goal is surrounded by money.

I don't want to waste my life doing something I don't care about. I didn't play sports for that reason. I want to create forever and make a difference. That's it. If I can make an impact on a life and make it positive. I'm reaching my goal. Some may say it's small minded but making a positive impact on at least one person a day could really change every. I hope to do that with my music.

Developing Ideas

One of the things I do to develop ideas is to explore different types of music in different sub genres in the genres that I enjoy. My music journey is you need to say the least I started off when you’re listening to gospel music and as I went to schools they were predominantly white so I started getting into pop and rock (kinda) then when I got closer to high school I started getting deeper and deeper into hip-hop. I find this to be really good for me because I have a large range of inspirations. Recently I’m exploring my love for the saxophone and different types of rhythms in the styles that goes along with that.

Another way I develop ideas is I hang out with my music friends basically. It’s easier to create in a productive environment with people that I’m extremely comfortable with. I want all my creations to be genuine and honest and I can’t do that around people I don’t know or being around people that don’t really care about me. A lot of my best work has been made when I’m in a great collaborative space with very like-minded people.
