After watching the resource video, “Steps of the Scientific Method in 3 Minutes” and the article “What is Inquiry-Based Science?”, I have learned that the Scientific method relates to scientific inquiry by asking questions, researching and experimenting, analyzing data, and drawing conclusions. Now that I understand the difference between the scientific method and inquiry, I can implement my own problem-solving in a more scientific way and will one day be able to implement this knowledge in my students. Inquiry-based learning impacts student learning by engaging students and helping them to become more scientifically literate so they may learn critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills.

In the video “Threshold 5: Life on Earth”, Life is about the existence of all living things. They all have metabolism, and homeostasis, they all can reproduce, and living things slowly over time begin to diversify.  After my experiences on this subject, I will continue to see things and all living organisms in different ways. Learning about what gives life, and how beings can reproduce and change over time is inspiring and I’m willing to learn more.

]]> 2022-10-10 01:16:06 UTC https://padlet.com/wendyholladay/714c0xho18xo215q/wish/2332875739 wendyholladay https://padlet.com/wendyholladay/714c0xho18xo215q/wish/2332878112    Before NS 100, I don’t remember learning about microscopic and macroscopic in school so I really didn’t have any thoughts on it before I did my research.  The two resources that pertain to microscopic changes and how they have macroscopic effects are the video and slide deck on Sickle Cell Anemia. The mutations in genes are microscopic but have macroscopic effects.  People with sickle cell trait may develop hematuria or blood in the urine which can be microscopic or macroscopic. After some research on these two terms, I have learned that macroscopic is something seen with the naked eye and microscopic is the opposite. I have learned quite a bit about Sickle Cell Anemia and found it to be very interesting and hopefully one day we will find a cure for this disease.

I plan to use my scientific skills in my future endeavors.

It reminded me why I love science so much and gain the confidence to continue my journey toward my bachelor's degree. After experiencing the NS 100 course I understand why is important to be scientifically literate. As citizens, we can think about the issues we face as a country and act on them accordingly and be smart about it. Apprenticeship in the classroom calls for having a passion for science, the wiliness to keep learning, and determination. Now that I have the knowledge of how the Science Method is used in the classroom I will be able to apply those skills to my students.
