“Since the Great Depression, the United States has developed a set of supports to help low-income families, seniors, children, and people with disabilities make ends meet and obtain health care" (Pg. 10). So what these government programs are is they are to help people that maybe doesn't have enough money/ have a disability, or are under a lot of debt. Medicare and SNAP are the most popular government programs. Medicare provides people affordable health care and medicine. SNAP stands for supplement, nutrition, assistance, program, also known as food stamps; provide low-income families with food benefits and feeding families that don't make as much to support there whole family. “Researchers have identified long-term payoffs to programs like SNAP, EITC, early childhood education, and Pell Grants. Research shows that income supports like the EITC and CTC both boost employment rates among parents and have long-term positive impacts on children — including better school performance" (Pg. 12).

One program for me

One program that I would choose to help me is Medicare (I have it now). “Medicaid provided access to affordable health care to 66 million Americans in 2010. Because of Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), children are far less likely to be uninsured than adults" (Pg. 11). I would choose this program because it doesn't worry my mom or me about any medical bills to pay, or to be stressed about how we were going to pay medical bills. It also helps my little brothers to get the check ups they need and making sure they are healthy. My little brother on his 2nd month of life he had bronchitis and there were so many medical procedures that my mom would have no idea how to pay for it if she didn't have Medicare.
