Two twins, Eva and Miriam, are captured with their family by Nazi's because they are Jewish. They were starved, experimented on, and traumatized by seeing bunches of diseased people and some they knew. They lived in "Auschwitz" for a while but were soon brought to freedom by Soviet soldiers.

Eva forgiving Dr. Mengele symbolizes healing in her heart. The book states, " By not letting him hurt me anymore, I let myself continue my life and no longer feel like a trapped victim. For me, forgiveness is about personal healing"( Kor 195). She is healing by forgiving.

"I will survive, I vowed. And Miriam will survive. We are not going to end up on the floor like those children. We are not going to be killed in gas chambers. No matter what it took, we were going to walk out of the gates of Auschwitz at the end of the war. Alive" (Kor 80). This quote is important because, it shows the hope that Eva has to get her and her twin out of those gates no matter what and they are going to do it alive.

I connected to Eva, because at the end of the book "I Will Protect You" by Eva Mozes Kor, Eva forgives Dr. Mengele and says forgiving to her is about personal healing. I connected with this because I feel that forgiving makes one's heart happier and helps with healing. Her heart was just beginning to heal by taking this step.

Forgiving is a form of healing one's heart. I think this is important in the book because the author says, " For me forgiveness is about personal healing" (Kor 195). This is evident because forgiving was a big part in Eva"s life.
