By Friday, please reflect on what you will you take back to your school and implement from what you have learned in this course thus far? How might it impact your work/relationships with others? Please be super reflective. Then, thoughtfully comment by next Tuesday on a minimum of two class members' responses.

Onward Workbook

I took the liberty of purchasing Aguilar's Onward Workbook as a supplement for this course. I've been impressed with what it has to offer...it surely won't gain any dust on my shelf. There are many great tools and exercises in the workbook that will enhance my professional and personal disposition. As I think of ways I can implement this in my profession, I think I can tweak a few of the activities to suit my students in my classroom, my mentees in my department, and one day as admin, my full staff. For example, on pg 508, a resilience self-assessment activity is promoted. This can work for yourself, your department, or your staff...a great reflective tool. The same concept can be applied with the activity on pg 520; "How to be Courageous." This can be applied for our co-curricular coaches/advisors to their student athletes. I've given two examples, of hundreds, that can be found in the workbook. Doing these exercises will positively impact yourself, and those around you.

Supportive Approach

The tips for using the supportive approach are great reminders that I will make sure to implement in my coaching:
* Be authentic (if not, it'll affect trust)
* Be specific (true for students and adults - always!)
* Highlight micromovements of growth (this is key - it is so easy to get bogged down by how far we need to go to accomplish a goal that we forget about how far we've come.)

As stated earlier, I plan to present the book to our staff here at East Ridge, with my own presentation and active listening activity. I also plan on continuing my emphasis on "Active Listening;" because I thing it's just that critical in our efforts to improve upon our craft as educators.
