Sarah had a fixed mindset. Instead of learning from the data, she blamed the outcomes on things that she didn't think she could change. She should have used the data to help plan for future learning experiences.

I agree that Sarah had a fixed mindset. If she had a growth mindset instead, she would believe that her abilities and outcomes could improve through effort, learning, and persistence. Rather than blaming external factors, she would focus on what she can control and seek ways to grow from challenges. By shifting her perspective, Sarah could take ownership of her learning, view challenges as opportunities, and feel empowered to work toward better outcomes.

I also agree that Sarah had a fixed mindset, or maybe even a closed mindset. She seemed to respond defensively, blaming factors such as proctors and the test itself being too hard. She could have approached the data with acceptance and motivation to make changes in the future.

I was once in that same position. I was teaching in a testing grade and had a ton pressure on myself to excel with the resources that were given. I think that Sarah felt defeated and just needed to adjust to the fact that although her scores were maybe not what she wanted, that there was always room for improvement and that does require a growth midset to know that she could change future outcomes. know

I teach a testing grade as well; even though my grade level test is considered not as important as math or ELA, I learned a long time ago to focus on creating a classroom environment where mistakes are seen as opportunities for learning, not as signs of failure. Sarah should feel empowered because she has the mindset to listen to her coach to foster a growth mindset for herself and students. A fixed mindset will keep her stuck thinking about test scores. I think Sarah will be fine as long as she remembers that failures can be seen as opportunities for student and teacher growth. Eventually, she will be confident enough to realize that her resilience and perseverance will rub off on her students.

scores are not to my liking.

I know how Sarah felt. I don's usually play the blame game but I do feel defeated after receiving data too. I feel frustrated, and not knowing or questioning my ability. She said something very poignant in her testimony about not diving deep enough to look for specific strengths or glows within the data instead of just having a broad view of it.

I agree that Sarah had a fixed mindset. I understand how difficult it is to have a testing grade. External factors are very easy to blame because they do affect our data. However, I think Sarah would find herself in happier and more successful if she looked for ways to create lessons to help her students make progress in ways she could control.
