Art is the most important characteristic because it had allowed them to be creative and still have use for daily life. Another reason Art impacted Mesopotamian society was, how important it was for their survival, using clay to create pots for food storage and bricks for homes.

It could also be argued that art might appear as one of the most important characteristics of a civilization, but the government is the key for a civilization. The government helps form Mesopotamia, create laws and help keep a stable and well running civilization. From the article” Elements of Civilization: Government , “At this time, kings ruled and made laws for only their city-states, not the entire Mesopotamian region. This type of decentralized government supported Sumerian cultural growth and innovation.” This evidence suggests that the government was a key characteristic of Mesopotamia. This piece explains how important the laws and the government's control was, it was key so that they could grow their land and have a safe and sound economy and city states.
