I thought it was important that I learned more about equity in education. As a former public school student I always assumed my experience was the same as everyone else's. I have learned a lot about compensatory education such as programs like Head Start that try to provide early education for children 3-5. I learned more about special education and environments of least restriction and inclusion. These lessons will be valuable to me in becoming a lead teacher in the future.
Ashley Bess

I guess because when I was in middle or high school, no one ever formed a prayer group. Being born into a Christian family, I would’ve loved to have participated in a prayer group because it would’ve allowed me to meet new people who were like me and to also start the school day off with a prayer, not only by myself, but with other students. -Breanna McKnight

One of the most interesting things I learned from this course is that there are surprisingly a lot of books on the ban list. So many of these book; I read as a student and currently offer to my students.
I was also educated in this class about the legalities of religion in schools. I always thought a student could lead prayer as in the cafeteria or celebration. I did not realize until this class that a student is allowed to pray independently but not invite others to join. I found that interesting.
The chapters on funding public schools was very informative. I knew schools were funded both at the State and Local level, but did not know in what ways the funding occurred. I am glad to now know more about the funding of schools.
Michelle Ehrler
