The UC application opens August 1st, and must be submitted from October 1st to November 30th. September 1st to September 30th is the filling period for the TAG application.

There is no extra application needed for communications. I will just have to declare and apply as a pre-communications major. Once I finish all the requirements, I will automatically be declared as a proper communications major.

Around $30,000 (including housing) including no extra aid or scholarships. I plan to apply for all scholarship and aid programs I am able to.

I learned that UCSB is a top-tier public university with a strong reputation in social sciences. The Communication major at UCSB emphasizes social science research and focuses on human communication.

The communication department aims to advance knowledge of communication as a social science and teach students how to apply communication theory to real-world issues through critical thinking and global awareness.

The location is mostly what makes UCSB unique from the other UCs. The school is literally on a beach and the "college town" Isle Vista is just one square mile of houses and apartments that hold college kids. This communications program is rooted a lot in scientific research.

Dr. Linda L. Putnam, Dr. Howard Giles, and Dr. Young Ji Kim

Dr. Putnam is known for her work on organizational communication, conflict, and negotiation. Dr. Giles has been internationally recognized for Communication Accommodation Theory. Lastly, Dr. Kim specializes in organizational and technological communication and serves as the internship advisor for the department.

Organizational discourse, conflict management, intergroup communication, social identity, Technology in organizations, and team collaboration.

Faculty are conducting experimental, quantitative, and qualitative research on: Environmental communication, diversity in organizations, political communication and media influence

Courses required for upper division are COMM 88: Research Methods, COMM 89: Statistical Analysis, at least one theory course, and completion of 40 upper-division Communication units total

Some of the courses avaible to choose from are COMM 121: Interpersonal Communication, COMM 131: Media Effects, COMM 141: Organizational Communication, COMM 162: Communication and Technology, and COMM 170: Health Communication.

Neither an internship or capstone project are required to graduate, but they are both very valuable to have to look into.

Communications classes and all general education courses. Along with this, you need to maintain a 3.6 GPA to guarantee transfer with the TAG program. If you were applying without TAG, you would still need a high GPA but they also look into extra curricular activities during the application process.

Communication alumni have been reported in the following fields: Marketing, PR, social media, broadcast, digital media, human resources, organizational consulting, law, education, and public policy

There are many extracurriculars on campus. I personally plan to try and get involved with the student run newspaper and possibly the radio station, along with a club sports team, most likely lacrosse or rugby.

I think this college and major are a good fit for me. The location and general feel of campus are similar to home but not the exact same. Along with that, the location is not too far from home, but not too close, which is what I was looking for. I have two friends attending with me by transferring, so I will already have a support system that reminds me of home as well. I'm not a super active and outgoing person, so going with some friends helps ease anxiety about transferring. I also believe communications will be a good fit for me, as a major. I originally was majoring in Kinesiology at Saddleback, but after a semester and a half, I faced the decision that it was not a good fit for me. Communications has already felt more natural and right for me. It's a more broad major and has more opportunities for me in the future. I am looking into going into the sports journalism field and I plan to utilize programs at UCSB, like trying to get involved in the student newspaper and writing a sports column.
