My Summer Internship

Over the summer, I interned with Bartlett Cocke General Contractors at the new Medina Valley High School #2. This was a very eye opening experience for me because previous to that I had never been on a commercial construction site and had never really been exposed to commercial construction methods. I will never forget my coworkers because they taught me so much in just one summer and I know that I will be able to apply most of the knowledge I now have in the classroom.

I am from a small town called Castroville that is about 30 minutes west of downtown San Antonio. I went to Medina Valley ISD for my elementary and middle school years, but in high school I made a switch and went to Construction Careers Academy which is at Warren High School of Northside ISD.

I am majoring in Construction Science and Management and thinking about doing a minor in Business. I know that I do have a passion for construction and I really can't wait to get back on the job site in a more significant way.

SkillsUSA

Throughout my high school experience, I was an active participant in a national organization called SkillsUSA. This is a national career and technical student organization. Its whole purpose is to connect students in trade, technical, and skilled service programs with real-world training, competitions, and leadership development. I would compete in different competitions such as TeamWorks and Carpentry. Each of these competitions takes up a lot of time to train for and participate in. During my junior year I was passionate enough to have earned a spot on the senior team, in which I was one of two carpenters on the team. Our team was lucky enough to have gotten second place at the state competition after winning our district competition. The following year, I decided to switch things up a little and competed in an individual competition instead of a team of four. I competed in carpentry and was able to win at the district and state competition and compete at the national competition over the summer in Atlanta, Georgia. This was overall one of the most fun/best experiences that I had in high school.
