         <description><![CDATA[<div>Students have been learning a lot about molecules in their chemistry unit. Each students were assigned their own molecule to draw and then identify its' chemical formula. Students then had to research and create a powerful paragraph about their specific molecule. The overarching theme of this assignment was to investigate the molecules contribution to global warming. Students were responsible for investigating the following questions:<br><br>What is your molecule, what atoms are included in your molecule, and what is the chemical formula of your molecule?<br><br></div><div>What are/are some/the sources of this molecule?</div><div><br></div><div>What are some of the uses for this molecule?</div><div><br></div><div>Is this molecule anthropogenic (human caused) or naturogenic (natural causes), or both?</div><div><br></div><div>How does this molecule contribute to global warming?</div><div><br></div><div>What are some ways we are trying to mitigate (slow down from happening) the damage being done by this molecule?</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Methane is emitted during the production and transport of coal, natural gas, and oil. Methane emissions also result from livestock and other agricultural practices and by the decay of organic waste in municipal solid waste landfills. It is used primarily as fuel to make heat and light. It is also used to manufacture organic chemicals. Methane can be formed by the decay of natural materials and is common in landfills, marshes, septic systems and sewers. A 2006 article in the publication Science estimated that 64 percent of methane emissions were human-caused and 36 percent of methane emissions were naturogenic, or made naturally. If methane leaks into the air before being used — from a leaky pipe, for instance — it absorbs the sun's heat, warming the atmosphere. Emissions are being reduced by promoting alternate wetting and drying (AWD) practices on a large scale. This creates a more stable food supply and reduces water use and production costs. Methane from fossil fuel production accounts for 29% of man-made emissions.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>My molecule is Nitrous Oxide. My molecule has two N and 1 O.My chemical formula of my molecule is N2 and O1. It's commonly known as laughing gas or nitrous , is a chemical compound, an oxide of nitrogen with the formula N2O.Nitrous oxide is a colorless gas that is commonly used for sedation and pain relief, but is also used by people to feel intoxicated or high.Nitrous oxide absorbs radiation and traps heat in the atmosphere, where it can live for an average  of 114 years, according to EPA. Dizziness, which might make you act carelessly or dangerously.Nitrous oxide is an important trace gas in the atmosphere.Changes in the atmosphere concentration of N 2 O have evoked considerable concern because of its role in regulating stratospheric ozone levels, contributing to the atmospheric greenhouse.Nitrous oxide is inhaled.People open the canister, transfer the gas into a container, then inhale  from the balloon.Inhaling nitrous oxide directly from the canister is very dangerous because the gas is under such high pressure.It can cause a spasm of the throat muscle and stop a person breathing.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>They are no other atoms that come with my molecule(ozone) and the formula is O3.</div><div>According to GoogleOn, “Ozone is most likely to reach unhealthy levels on hot sunny days in urban environments, but can still reach high levels during colder months.”</div><div>The uses for ozone is Medical ozone has been used to disinfect medical supplies and treat different conditions for more than 100 years. </div><div>Ground-level ozone (O3) is not emitted directly from anthropogenic sources so it’s natural The protectiveThe protective benefit of stratospheric ozone outweighs its contribution to the greenhouse effect and to global warming.</div><div>Stay indoors. Avoid spending too much time outdoors on high-level ozone days. Timing is everything. Gas up your vehicle in the early morning or late evening hours and mow your lawn later in the evening.</div><div>Limit driving. Use public transit or carpool whenever possible.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Dichlorodifluoromethane is my molecule and today I am telling you things that I know about my molecule. So Dichlorodifluoromethane is a colorless gas that has been sold by the name of Freon-13. The atoms that are included are carbon, chlorine, and fluorine. The chemical formula is CCl2F2. Dichlorodifluoromethane is made by reacting carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) with hydrogen fluoride gas (H2F2) in the presence of a catalyst, usually antimony pentafluoride. Dichlorodifluoromethane is used for refrigerators in the freezer to make things cold by taking up the heat and reproducing cold wind. Dichlorodifluoromethane is not a natural cause. How it contributes to global warming is that when you go outside Dichlorodifluoromethane has this very weird odor that will rise up to the sky. Some ways we are trying to mitigate Dichlorodifluoromethane is by using a refrigerator so it won’t expose our skin as much and it’s freezing things so our skin and organs won’t be affected. This is my paragraph of my molecule called Dichlorodifluoromethane.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Chlorodifluoromethane, more commonly known as R-22, is a hydrochlorofluorocarbon gas used as a refrigerant in the AC systems of most homes, businesses, restaurants and stores built before 2010. R-22 is used as a refrigerant and a solvent. It is shipped as a liquid. R-22 is anthropogenic (human caused). Although an effective heat absorbent, R22 is a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming and ozone depletion. In 2004, the EPA began enforcing restrictions on the consumption of all hydrochlorofluorocarbons nationwide in an effort to minimize environmental impacts. When those restrictions increased in 2010, the use of R-22 was banned in all new AC systems and its production and import were cut sharply.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Pentafluoroethane is a fluorocarbon with the formula CF3CHF2. HFC, any of several organic compounds composed of hydrogen, fluorine, and carbon. HFCs are produced synthetically and are used primarily as refrigerants. There is no natural source of pentafluoroethane. Pentafluoroethane is currently used as a refrigerant (known as R-125) and also used as a fire suppression agent in fire suppression systems. HFC-125 is a non-ozone depleting replacement for chlorine- or bromine -containing chemicals such as Halons 1301. Due to its global warming potential (GWP) of 3500 times that of CO₂ and atmospheric lifetime of 29 years, it is included in the list of controlled substances of the Montreal Protocol.</div><div>Prior to re-entry of a room where the HFC-125 system has been activated to suppress a fire, the atmosphere should be tested. An acid Scavenging Additive added to pentafluoroethane is able to reduce the amount of hydrogen fluoride. Your molecule is anthropogenic. It means it is created by humans, so there is no natural source of it, it is only human made.</div>]]></description>
