Request for Additional Funded Year of Early Learning and Childcare - August 2026

If your child’s date of birth is between 10 August 2021 and 28 February 2022 you are able to apply to defer their school entry until August 2027.

The application process is open from 1 November 2025 and closes on 28 February 2026 and the. If you want to apply after this date please obtain a paper copy of the deferral application form from your child’s Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) setting or Early Years and email

EarlyYears@edinburgh.gov.uk.

Written confirmation of additional funded year applications will be sent after the process closes on 28 February 2026.

P5 Buddy Meetings

We are delighted to share with you that small groups of pupils from Primary 5 have begun visiting the Nursery every Monday afternoon for 30 minutes to meet and play with the Nursery children. These sessions are working very well for both School and Nursery pupils and as we move through the last 2 terms of this academic year these sessions will increase in length and content. We hope the children are able to share more information about these sessions with you.

Suncream Policy - Summer 2026

Now that sunnier weather has arrived and in accordance with our nursery policy and current NHS Guidelines (https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/seasonal-health/sunscreen-and-sun-safety), we ask that all children arrive at nursery with suncream already applied. We will then reapply Asda Kids SPF 50 as necessary throughout the day.

If you are providing your own suncream for us to use, can you please ensure this is now in nursery, fully labelled with your child's name.

We have recently made some exciting changes to our snack and Hi Tea times! The children are now more involved in planning what we eat, helping them feel included and giving them a sense of responsibility.

As part of this, the children will be baking 2–3 times a week and taking an active part in food preparation. From washing fruit and vegetables, cutting, and chopping (with child-safe tools), to mixing, stirring, setting the table, and serving, they will be developing essential life skills in a fun, hands-on way.

These experiences also support independence, confidence, teamwork, and healthy eating habits while encouraging children to try a wider variety of foods. Snack and Hi Tea is now not just a time to eat, but opportunities for learning, creativity, and shared joy.

P1 Registration August 2027

If your child's date of birth is between 1 March 2022 and 28 February 2023 they are due to start primary school in August 2027 you must register your child for P1.

If you live outside the catchment area of your preferred school, you need to make a placing request. You will only receive a place if one is available.

You can apply to defer your child's entry to P1 for a year. We ask that you still register for P1 even if you plan to defer.

P1 Enrolment is online and it will open from November 2026.

Laundering Children's Soiled Clothing
